On Monday, September 11th the Executives Association of Long Beach met for their weekly networking luncheon at The Grand Event Center. This week they had their first EALB reunion dubbed "Back to Execs". We had a mixer during lunch hour at The Grand Event Center. We invited past members of the association to join us for a chance to reconnect. Some of our guest have since retired, while others mentioned that they would love to rejoin when the time is right again. It was a great day of fun and camaraderie.

About the Owner: 

The Belmont Athletic Club would not exist today if it weren't for the vision of its founders John and Jan Doyle. It's their enthusiasm and compassion that have built this Long Beach health club into the benchmark it has become.

In 1978 they entered into negotiations to lease the old Belmont Theater on 2nd Street. After 11 months of negotiations they were finally awarded the lease and began construction. The Belmont Athletic Club opened its doors in 1980 and has been on the cutting edge of the health club industry ever since.

By the time they became tenants, most of the building's historic interior had been damaged; therefore, it is not considered a historic building. Nonetheless, many of the Art Deco architectural elements are still visible on the building's exterior today.

In 2012 the Doyles decided it was time to retire and sold the Belmont Athletic Club to its employees. An Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) was formed and today a group of employees lead by the management team that John and Jan relied on for so many years owns and operates the club.

From 1913 to 1969, John Choura Sr. owned and operated meat markets in Chicago, built a successful grocery market chain and developed a restaurant landmark with long lines and a short wait. Jennifer Sawday is a partner at TLD Law. She serves a wide range of clients in all matters related to probate, trusts, estate planning, conservatorships, guardianships and related litigation. She also handles pre and post death administration for clients serving as personal representatives, executors and trustees for trusts and estates.

Ms. Sawday’s approach to estate planning is top notch. She works with individuals and families to first understand why estate planning is important and helps makes it easy for clients to complete their planning. Estate planning starts with a revocable living trust, pour over wills, durable powers of attorney and advance health care directives. Then there is a discussion about guardians for minor children and then figuring out what assets should become vested in the revocable living trust and discussions on how and why to fund those assets into the trust. Estate planning clients typically begin and complete their estate planning within a 4 to 6 week period. This way everyone is working hard on a common goal to ensure that the client and their families are protected from a probate or other difficult administration upon death.

Ms. Sawday has more than thirteen years of legal practice experience. Ms. Sawday drafts about two estate plans a week and her court practice includes about 30 active probates at any given time. Her experience and tenacity has allowed clients to have their court matters resolved as quickly as possible including obtaining orders to open and close probates quickly as possible given the statutory time periods. Ms. Sawday also works with clients to handle trust administration and contested matters involving wills and trusts.

Ms. Sawday has been consistently rated a 10.0 superb attorney by AVVO.

Ms. Sawday is the President of the Estate Planning and Trust Council of Long Beach for a two year term from 2014 to 2016. She also recently completed her second term as President of Women Lawyers of Long Beach as she served in 2008 to 2009 and again for 2013 to 2014. Ms. Sawday also volunteers her time to cook quarterly at the Long Beach Ronald McDonald house, is on the board for the Los Altos YMCA and also assists from time to time with the local charity called Arts and Services for the Disabled.
