Sashi Muralidharan is the SBE (Small Business Enterprise) Administrator at the Port of Long Beach. He gave an informative presentation on the Port. In his presentation he spoke about how the Port of Long Beach is the 9th busiest port in the world, how they can accommodate 18,000 TEU ships like the Benjamin Franklin which is too big to go through the Panama Canal and how they have $4 Billion capital expense program. Middle Terminal is the most technologically advanced port. They also have a completely diverless, battery operated container movers on the electric terminal. The Port is focused on being a green port and the electric terminals and railroad lines are reducing the port immissions dramatically.
Sashi as head of the SBE division also discussed how members of the EALB can signup to do business with the Port of Long Beach. Pleas visit their vendor portal website at www.polb.com/sbe to find out more. They have a goal of giving 27% of the their contracts to small businesses. Their planning division is hitting 50%. Additionally 5% of those are preferred to be given to VSBEs (Very Small Businesses).
