On Monday, January 29th the Executives Association of Long Beach met for their weekly networking luncheon. This week's speaker was Jim Choura, owner of The Grand and Choura Events. Jim has been a member of the EALB the longest. He joined in 1976 in classification of events and has keep his weekly business appointment with the EALB ever since. Jim also holds the title of 3-time Past President and Don Temple President's Award recipient.

Typically our members talk about themselves and their business during their talk but since Jim is quite well known in our group, he opted to give a more inspiring talk about to our members about how to improve their membership in the EALB. It's nice to have a room full of business owners who aren't afraid to share their insight, wisdom and leadership amongst friends.

Jim began by asking who had seen one of the gold digging shows on TV. Many had or at least know how gold mining works, you put tons of soil in and it washes down to a small amount of valuable gold.  Jim proclaimed the word for 2018 should be "hopper" and challenged everyone to see who in the Execs they could add to their "hopper" this year.  During his talk he went through the EALB buyers guide (which is our member directory) and talked about how he could do more business with each person.

In the Execs we like to say "you have to give to get" and it's true. Jim encouraged members to try to do more business with people in the Execs to keep themselves top of mind with the members. It's not required that we give members a discount or even that we promise to give each other our business. We do hope that you will at least give a member a chance to bid on your next project. Members like Jeff Parry stood up to thank the Execs for the great Yelp reviews that helped him land a nice job but also to ask that Execs please tell him if something doesn't go right. He is eager to always improve and wants to know if something was over-bid or not fixed as it should have been. Jim Choura is often saying that he wants to hear your problems. If something isn't right with your event, tell him so he can fix it.

Please take the time to review the buyers guide and make some coffee dates with other members you think you could be doing more business with or members you don't know that well and aren't sure how to refer business to.

If you want to know more about Jim and his business history, you can read the pdf attachment from his featured article in the Long Beach Business Journal.
