On Monday, January 22nd the Executives Association of Long Beach met for their weekly networking luncheon. This week's speaker was John Doyle, owner of The Belmont Athletic Club. John has been a member since 2006.

John Doyle grew up in Ohio in a family of 10 kids. From a young age he had a passion for sports and a keen mind for business. He met his wife Jan, who sadly passed away in January 2017, in college at Ohio State. After his employers told him he was too young to move up from management to ownership, he quit and moved to California for work.  His love of Racquetball sent him down an arduous path to becoming a sports club owner. Initially he simply wanted to play racquet ball but the wait times to get on a court were over an hour every morning. There was obviously a need for more courts. This need led he and Jan to opening Circle Racquetball Courts. After years of struggle they eventually opened The Belmont Athletic Club in 1980 where it stands today, nearly 38 years later on 2nd Street in the heart of Belmont Shore. They just renewed their lease and plan to be there for at least another 40 more!

John and Jan had 3 kids and 3 grandchildren. This year while John was back home in Ohio for business and reunited with his high school sweetheart Karen. Then soon were married and enjoyed a fun filled honeymoon in Hawaii. As John put it: "at this age, why wait!".

The Belmont is a true "community" club. The building was remodeled from a classic 1927 theater of the same name, into a multilevel, open beam, 25,000 square foot health club. The club is a friendly and unique exercise and social experience. The mission of The Belmont Athletic Club is to ensure that our members attain their fitness goals while having fun.

The Belmont Athletic Club has a wide range of fitness equipment, programs, and services available to help meet your fitness needs. A few of the features include racquetball, weight equipment and free weights, Cardio Theater, Childcare, Massage Therapy, Yoga, Pilates, personal training and so much more. But we believe that The Belmont’s best asset is its professional and helpful staff that is eager to help you achieve your health and fitness goals.
